Work Motivation

Most of us spend the majority of our waking lives at work. It’s not too much to ask that we feel as if we’re working toward something more than a paycheck alone. How then, do we go about finding fulfilling work? We’ve all faced days at the office where we’re just not feeling motivated. Off days happen to everyone and it’s tough—if not unrealistic—to constantly do your best work. There are bound to be times when you procrastinate too much, lack focus or struggle to start important projects. You may react by getting down on yourself, wondering where your determination has gone. It can be disappointing to feel like you’re not living up to your aspirations, especially when there’s important work to be done—which there almost always is. Speed, efficiency and productivity are what drive results, and when our energy doesn’t match our ambition, it can be frustrating.

To succeed in the workplace, you need to be at your best, and you can only truly be at your best when you are motivated to work. With the proper inner drive, everything can seamlessly fall into place. It simply comes down to putting in those hours of work with determination. But how can you motivate yourself to work with motivation and determination? Here are some suggestions:

  1. Decide Small Goals

We all have goals we want to achieve at work or in school. Such goals can be overwhelming and demotivating if they are big and require a lot of effort to achieve. In order to get the motivation to pursue big goals, break them into smaller pieces. Handle each piece one at a time and don’t proceed to the next one until you complete the one you are currently handling. Breaking goals into smaller pieces make them simpler to achieve. You will also get the motivation to achieve more goals and feel a sense of accomplishment once you complete all of them.

  1. Talk to Yourself – you are the most expert adviser for your own life

Never underestimate the power of self-talk. By talking to yourself, you feed your mind with instructions and information it needs. If you encounter a difficult task or feel lazy to work, say something like ‘I can do this thing perfectly’ or ‘I have the knowledge and energy to complete this task on time.’ Doing so will reprogram your mind from a state of despair and tiredness to a state of optimism and motivation.   1. Interact With People who are Working With Motivation and Aspiration

In order to get the motivation to work and pursue your goals, you need to surround yourself with people who are working just as hard. These may include classmates, coworkers or any other group of like-minded individuals. Such people will push you and give you the motivation you need to work harder.

  1. Only positive talk

One of the main negatives of the office is the fact that you have employees and coworkers always badmouthing the company and bringing everyone around them down mentally. Needless to say, it is incredibly difficult to remain motivated when you keep hearing about the negatives of the workplace. There is good and bad in every office. Focus on the positive, surround yourself with like-minded people that enjoy their work and are there for a reason (such as the ones listed above), and you will be guaranteed to always be in a frame of mind where your motivation is pristine. When you allow negative discussions at work to enter your mind, you subconsciously start doubting your reason for even being there, so you think you will possess the right motivation to work properly? Definitely not, so at all costs, always be positive when it comes to your discussions about your job.

  1. Be Positive and Face Failures as Lessons

We all fear to fail. However, failure should not define who you are or stop you from trying. You need to do whatever is required of you to achieve your goals, regardless how many times you do it. Focus on what you can do better, rather than what you can’t. Building your self-esteem and motivating yourself to work harder is all about identifying your strengths and building on them.

  1. Celebrate Your Achievements

You need to acknowledge all the milestones you are making, despite how insignificant they might be. Recognize small things like being on time in class or completing your assignment on time and congratulate yourself for the achievement. Doing so will motivate you to do more and encourage you not to give up no matter how difficult things might be. It also helps you see how brilliant you are.
